The Ballad of Castle Wyvern

*
to the tune of "The Ballad of Morgan Kane"
*
**
1 On a Scottish cliff, a barren piece of land,
'twas an area all but untouch'd by man,
where at night the gargoyle guardians would fly,
fairly soon, a Scottish castle there would lie.
*
Castle Wyvern,
was the place,
Castle Wyvern,
was the place.
*
2 With the gargoyle help, the castle soon was there,
yet they looked upon each other, still with fear,
even now, the humans oft hid in their hall,
while the gargoyles stood their watch on every wall.
*
Castle Wyvern,
was the place,
Castle Wyvern,
was the place.
*
3 Many years went by, the gargoyles still were there,
when the human Archmage's treachery was clear,
through sorcery he sought the prince to slay,
but the gargoyles ventured forth to save the day.
*
Castle Wyvern,
was the place,
Castle Wyvern,
was the place.
*
4 Then the vikings came in year nine-ninety-four,
through more treachery they found an open door,
all the gargoyles were destroyed in mid-day's light,
six survivors vow'd revenge come fall of night.
*
Castle Wyvern,
was the place,
Castle Wyvern,
was the place.
*
5 By mistake, the princess was though to be dead,
and the Magus lost his wits to grief and dread,
as he faced the gargoyles in an angry tone,
"'Till the castle is above sky, sleep as stone!"
*
Castle Wyvern,
was the place,
Castle Wyvern,
was the place.
*
6 And the castle was abandoned, none remained,
save the gargoyles, who in stone sleep were contained,
both the Magus and the Princess left the land,
and arrived upon the Avalonian sand.
*
Castle Wyvern,
was the place,
Castle Wyvern,
was the place.
*
7 After that another thousand years went by,
and the castle did not rise above the sky,
'till the day when it was moved across the sea,
placed atop a tower, high as it could be.
*
Castle Wyvern,
was the place,
Castle Wyvern,
was the place.
*
8 Then at last, the gargoyles finally awoke,
through their lifeless sleep, distrust became a yoke,
their new landlord proved deceptful as could be,
through another human they learned to be free.
*
Castle Wyvern,
was the place,
Castle Wyvern,
was the place.
*
9 Now the gargoyles guard the city of New York,
to protect, to guard, their instinctual work,
even though they're faced with anger and with fear,
when they glide at night, they're watching and they're near.
*
Castle Wyvern,
is the place,
Castle Wyvern,
is the place.
