Stone Requiem

Strong and tall without a reason
Ever standing brave and pale
His mercy just, it knew no season
And forged for us a clear, bright trail
Life was faint, we had no chance
But he remained, without romance
Life was pure, but still so few
Life was lost, though nothing new.
Love eternal we were granted
Love so hale it couldn't be canted
He was there, forever tending
We couldn't see his kind reign ending
Strong and tall without a reason
Ever standing brave and pale
His mercy just, it knew no season
And forged for us a clear bright trail
With Angel at his side, he knew us
Offered when we needed solace
Shaped our clan from something old
Each of us held two other souls
To him, we knew, we meant his world
Each of us lads, and every wee girl
He gave his life to see us home
He gave his chance to watch us grow
Strong and tall without reason
Ever standing brave and pale
His mercy just, it knew no season
And forged for us a clear, bright trail
The Vikings came, old hates returned
His mate and he, their eyes reburned
A vengeance worthy of our cause
But our leader fell to no applause
A hundred arrows peirced his heart
And still he fought, knowing his art
His wound was grave, and gave him pain
But he lived on, put them to shame
Down but tall, and still no reason
No more standing, cold and pale
Oh Mercy just, now is the season
Show to him a clear, bright trail
His Angel rose, wrought with privation
Down on them fell, they found no salvation
Her motives noble, her journey brave
But he was gone, she could not save
We begged of her, 'please, do not leave now!
We need you still, you can see how.'
And then she saw, in us, true warriors
We were her righteous soldiers
Strong and tall, we fought with reason
Ever fighting, brave and pale
Again his mercy found the season
And forged for us a clear bright trail
War is no glory
There's no salvation
We thought the story
Had seen its end
But still we fought on
Championing his memory
We knew his story
Would never end
Strong and tall, without a reason
Ever standing, brave and pale
His mercy just, it knew no season
And blazed for us a clear, bright trail
