Gargoyles

by Mark A. Brown

Fearsome creatures,
With flesh of stone.
Then, in darkness,
Of blood and bone.
*
Ancient myths,
Nothing more.
Having forgotten
What came before.
*
Leathern wings,
And flashing eyes,
And talons,
Rulers of the skies.
*
Chilling roars,
Impassioned cries,
Incongruous,
With lovers' eyes.
*
Their nature,
Till the bitter end;
Gargoyles
Always shall defend.
